I'm really glad I went to KA because if I hadn't, I probably wouldn't be where I am today.
Firstly, the small classes gave me the individualized attention that I needed. Even though this student-teacher ratio made me a little nervous at first, it enabled me to communicate more with my teachers about what I wanted/needed to learn and improve. The teachers who had taught me were all super flexible and dedicated, and would adjust lessons plans according to those needs instead of just sticking to a rigid curriculum, which I am very thankful for.
Secondly, KA's textbooks are made to address each student's needs. While we would solve official practice tests and past examinations, we also worked on lots of problems that KA teachers made and often were a little more challenging than entrance examinations. This not only made the actual test seem easier, but also helped me nurture skills that gave me an advantage over other students after I entered college. Another way that KA textbooks were helpful was that they addressed the certain issues that returnees tend to encounter when studying English that other people may not face. For example, when using textbooks made for students in English-speaking countries, there may be a few things that students are expected to know that returnees may not understand. On the other hand, textbooks made in Japan for non-native English speakers may be too easy. KA's textbooks are geared to address these specific issues. Also, KA students tend to take high-level English examinations which are usually taken by businessmen/women and include topics that may sometimes be a little mundane for junior/senior high school students. KA's textbooks and teachers help made these topics seem for interesting and approachable for me.
Lastly, KA teachers offered me lots of help outside of the classroom as well. They helped me with school English assignments if I had any questions, offered me assistance before and after classes, and near my application deadlines, helped me with my essays via e-mail too (and also calmed me down whenever I sent in long over-dramatic e-mails panicking about not getting into any university). Also, one seemingly small thing that helped especially though was when Joe-Joe would correct all of my grammar mistakes. This made me pay attention to the grammar mistakes I make often. Thanks to this, I received a perfect score on the grammar section of every SAT and ACT test I took.
I'm so thankful for all that KA has done for me in the five years that I was a student there. Best of luck to everyone studying for entrance examinations; your work at KA will most definitely pay off!
